Description

The RM30 operates on the inductive sensing principle, generating an electromagnetic field to detect the presence of metallic targets without physical contact. Its shielded design confines the sensing field to the face of the sensor, allowing for flush installation in metal mounting surfaces without false triggering. Internal signal conditioning provides stable switching output with high repeat accuracy.

Built with an IP67 protection rating, the sensor is resistant to dust, water, oil, and vibration, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments. The device includes built-in protection against short-circuit and reverse polarity connection, ensuring long-term reliability and operational safety across an extended temperature range of -25°C to 70°C.

Key Features

  • Shielded (flush-mount) design for installation in metal without interference
  • Robust M30 stainless steel threaded barrel for secure panel mounting
  • High switching frequency for fast response in automated processes
  • Integrated short-circuit and reverse polarity protection circuits
  • Wide operating temperature range for industrial applications
  • High-value build with optimized performance-to-cost ratio
  • 3-wire cable (2m length) with standard color coding for easy wiring
  • Red LED provides clear visual indication of output state

Applications

  • Position verification and part presence detection on automated assembly lines
  • End-of-travel limit sensing for CNC machines and robotic actuators
  • Metal object counting and sorting in conveyor systems
  • Safety interlock and door position monitoring in industrial machinery

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between shielded and non-shielded inductive sensors?

Shielded (or flush-mount) sensors have a metallic ring that confines the electromagnetic field to the sensor's face, allowing them to be installed flush with a metal surface without causing interference or false triggers. Non-shielded sensors require a clearance around the sensing face to operate correctly. This RM30 model is shielded.

What power supply voltage does this sensor require?

This sensor operates on a wide-range DC supply from 6V to 36V. The nominal operating voltage is 24V DC. Ensure your power source can provide stable voltage within this range and can handle the sensor's quiescent current and the load current of your connected device (PLC input, relay, etc.).

How do I wire the 3-wire NPN normally open output?

Connect the brown wire to your positive DC supply (6-36V), the blue wire to the DC common (0V), and the black wire is the switched NPN output. When a metal target is detected within range, the black wire will switch to ground (sinking current), completing the circuit to your load, which should be connected between the positive supply and the black wire.

What metals can this inductive sensor detect?

Inductive sensors detect all conductive metals, but the sensing distance varies. Ferrous metals (like steel and iron) are detected at the full nominal distance (10mm). Non-ferrous metals (like aluminum, copper, brass) have a reduced sensing distance, typically 30-60% of the nominal value, due to their lower permeability.

Is this sensor suitable for outdoor or wet environments?

Yes, with its IP67 rating, the sensor is protected against temporary immersion in water (up to 1m for 30 minutes) and is completely dust-tight. It is suitable for use in damp, dusty, or oily industrial environments, but is not designed for continuous submersion or high-pressure water jets.
