Description

The sensor operates on the electromagnetic induction principle. When a metal object enters its oscillating field, eddy currents are induced, damping the oscillation and triggering a solid-state switch. This provides a non-contact, wear-free detection method with no mechanical pressure or sparking.

Engineered for industrial durability, the sensor features a shielded M17 threaded metal body offering resistance to vibration, dust, water, and oil splashes. It includes built-in reverse polarity and short-circuit protection, ensuring robust performance and longevity in demanding automation, CNC machinery, and robotic applications.

Key Features

  • Non-contact inductive sensing for metal objects with no physical wear.
  • Wide operating voltage range (DC 6-36V) supports diverse industrial power supplies.
  • PNP normally-open (NO) three-wire output simplifies wiring to PLCs and microcontrollers.
  • High repeatability and fast switching frequency enable precise position and stroke control.
  • Shielded (flush-mountable) M17 threaded metal housing with environmental sealing.
  • Integrated reverse polarity and output short-circuit protection for enhanced system safety.
  • Status indicator LED for real-time operational feedback during installation and debugging.
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for high-volume automation and control projects.

Applications

  • Precision positioning and end-of-travel detection in CNC machines and automated molds.
  • Object presence verification and part counting on conveyor belts and assembly lines.
  • Limit switch replacement for robotic arm positioning and gripper actuation.
  • Metal detection and safety interlocking in industrial machinery and packaging equipment.
  • Position feedback and sequencing control in PLC-based automation systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PNP and NPN output on this sensor?

This sensor has a PNP (sourcing) output. In a PNP configuration, the signal wire outputs a positive voltage (close to V+) when activated. It is commonly used with PLCs and controllers that have a common negative (sinking) input. Ensure your controller input is compatible with a sourcing signal.

Can this sensor detect non-ferrous metals like aluminum or copper?

Yes, inductive proximity sensors can detect all conductive metals, including aluminum, brass, and copper. However, the effective sensing distance for non-ferrous metals is typically reduced compared to ferrous metals like steel. For precise positioning, you may need to calibrate or reduce the nominal sensing distance.

How do I wire this 3-wire PNP-NO proximity sensor?

Connect the brown wire to your DC power supply positive (6-36V), the blue wire to the power supply negative (0V/GND), and the black wire is the PNP signal output. When a metal target is detected, the black wire will switch to a high state (close to the supply voltage). Always refer to the controller's manual for correct input connection.

Is this sensor shielded (flush-mountable) or unshielded?

This M17 sensor features a shielded (flush-mountable) design. This means it can be installed flush with a metal mounting surface without its sensing field being adversely affected, allowing for compact and secure installation in tight spaces.

What is the maximum switching frequency and load current?

The sensor supports a high switching frequency suitable for fast-moving objects on production lines. The output can sink up to 300mA, allowing it to directly drive small relays, PLC inputs, or indicator lamps without an additional amplifier.
