Generic LJ18A3-8-Z/BY Inductive Proximity Sensor PNP NO, DC 6–36V, 8mm Detection, IP65

This LJ18A3-8-Z/BY model features a PNP (sourcing) output. When activated, the signal wire switches to the positive supply voltage. This is the standard for PLC sinking inputs in many regions. Ensure your controller's input module is compatible with a sourcing (PNP) signal.

The sensor's nominal sensing distance is 8mm for a standard ferrous metal target. The guaranteed operating point (where switching is assured) is 6.4mm. For consistent operation, always install targets within this 6.4mm range, accounting for mechanical tolerances and temperature effects.

This specific model is designed for a 6–36V DC supply only, as per its specifications. Do not connect it to an AC voltage source, as this will damage the internal solid-state switching electronics. For AC line applications, select an AC-rated inductive proximity sensor model.

Connect the brown wire to your DC positive supply (6-36V), the blue wire to DC negative (0V/common), and the black wire is the PNP output signal. The black wire will switch to the supply voltage (high) when a metal target is detected, providing a signal to your PLC input or relay.

With its IP65 rating, the sensor is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. It is suitable for damp industrial interiors and occasional washdowns but is not submersible or rated for continuous high-pressure water exposure (IP67/IP69K).
