MQ-214 Methane Sensor Combustible Gas Sensor Module - Analog Output
The MQ-214 is a metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) combustible gas sensor module designed for detecting methane, LPG, propane, hydrogen, and natural gas. It provides an analog voltage output for direct interfacing with microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi, making it suitable for DIY safety and monitoring projects.
Features
- Detects methane (CHâ‚„), LPG, propane, hydrogen, and natural gas.
- Analog voltage output (AO) for simple ADC reading.
- Operates on a standard 4.5V to 5V DC power supply.
- Based on SnOâ‚‚ semiconductor sensing technology for combustible gases.
- Compact module format for easy integration into prototypes and systems.

The MQ-214 combustible gas sensor utilizes a tin dioxide (SnOâ‚‚) semiconductor sensing element. When exposed to target gases, the sensor’s conductivity changes proportionally to the gas concentration, which is read as a varying analog voltage. This heater-based sensor requires a simple drive circuit and is designed for continuous monitoring applications.
Its performance is optimized for detecting methane within an indicative range of 1000 to 20,000 ppm and LPG/propane from 500 to 10,000 ppm. The module is engineered for long-term stability, though like all MOS sensors, its sensitivity may degrade gradually over extended use. It is a fundamental component for gas leak detection in educational, hobbyist, and basic safety monitoring setups.
