The Sharp Microelectronics GP2Y1023AU0F dust sensor employs an advanced optical sensing principle, utilizing an infrared emitting diode (IRED) and a phototransistor positioned at a specific angle. As airborne particles pass through the detection area, they scatter infrared light, which is measured by the phototransistor. This analog signal is internally conditioned and converted into a proportional digital PWM output, providing a clean signal for direct microcontroller input.
Engineered for reliability in environmental monitoring, the sensor operates across a wide temperature range of –10°C to +65°C. Its compact, slim form factor and low power draw make it suitable for integration into portable air quality devices, smart home systems, and industrial air filtration control units.
