Frequently Asked Questions

What types of GNSS modules are compatible with the SparkFun GNSS Flex pHAT?

The SparkFun GNSS Flex pHAT is specifically designed to be compatible with SparkPNT GNSS Flex modules. It provides dedicated 2x20-pin male headers for a solder-free connection, ensuring proper mechanical and electrical interfacing. This carrier board acts as a bridge, allowing easy integration of these specialized modules with your Raspberry Pi.

How does the pHAT provide antenna connectivity for the GNSS module?

The pHAT includes both U.FL and SMA connectors to facilitate versatile antenna integration. These connectors act as bridges, allowing you to connect external GNSS antennas to the module without requiring direct soldering to the delicate GNSS module itself. This flexibility supports various antenna types and mounting configurations for optimal signal reception.

What communication interfaces are available for the connected GNSS module via the pHAT?

The SparkFun GNSS Flex pHAT offers robust communication options, including up to four UARTs, USB-C, and I²C interfaces. This extensive connectivity allows for versatile data exchange, configuration, and monitoring of the GNSS module. Additionally, it supports SD card access for data logging and a Pulse-Per-Second (PPS) output for precise timing synchronization.

Can this pHAT be used with other single-board computers besides Raspberry Pi?

While primarily designed for Raspberry Pi, the GNSS Flex pHAT features a standard 40-pin Raspberry Pi header. This means it is generally compatible with other single-board computers (SBCs) that adhere to the same 40-pin GPIO header standard. Users should verify pinout and voltage compatibility for specific non-Raspberry Pi SBCs to ensure proper function.
