Description
The ATZB-212B-XPRO ZigBit Xplained PRO board is a dedicated development platform for Microchip Technology’s ZigBit wireless modules. It integrates an ATmega256RFR2 microcontroller—an AVR-based wireless System-on-Chip (SoC)—with an AT86RF212B radio transceiver, creating a complete, low-power RF node for the 700-900MHz spectrum. This architecture is optimized for low-voltage operation and includes on-chip RF components, requiring only an antenna, crystal, and decoupling capacitors externally.
The board facilitates rapid prototyping and hardware verification for wireless sensor networks. It provides direct access to the SoC’s SPI interface and GPIOs, enabling firmware development for ZigBee PRO, IEEE 802.15.4, and IPv6-based 6LoWPAN networks. The integrated MAC and AES accelerators offload processing from the main CPU, reducing active power consumption and ensuring precise timing for robust wireless communication in industrial, home automation, and smart metering applications.
