Description
The Official Arduino Portenta Machine Control Unit is a fully-centralized, low-power, industrial control unit capable of driving various equipment and machinery. It offers programming flexibility, supporting both the Official Arduino framework and other embedded development platforms. Its significant computing power enables a wide range of predictive maintenance and AI use cases, facilitating real-time data collection from the factory floor and supporting remote equipment control, including cloud integration.
This unit empowers companies to explore new business-as-a-service models by monitoring customer equipment usage for predictive maintenance and providing valuable production data. The Portenta Machine Control supports industry-standard soft-PLC control and connects to a diverse array of external sensors and actuators. It features isolated digital I/O, 4-20mA compatible analog I/O, three configurable temperature channels, and a dedicated I2C connector. Multiple network connectivity options are available, including USB, Ethernet, WiFi/Bluetooth® Low Energy, and industrial protocols such as RS485. All I/O are safeguarded by resettable fuses, and onboard power management ensures maximum reliability in demanding environments.
At its core, the Portenta Machine Control integrates an included Portenta H7 microcontroller board, a highly reliable design capable of operating across industrial temperature ranges (-40 °C to +85 °C) with a dual-core architecture that does not require external cooling. This powerful processor also allows for connecting external Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) like displays, touch panels, keyboards, joysticks, and mice, enabling on-site reconfiguration of state machines and direct process manipulation. Its versatile design allows for software-configurable I/O pins, making it a unified, powerful solution for optimizing production needs.
