The Seeed Studio Wio Terminal redefines the concept of an integrated development platform, offering a complete system that combines a vibrant 2.4-inch LCD screen, a powerful microcontroller, diverse input/output interfaces, and a compact enclosure. Building upon the Wio (Wireless Input and Output) legacy, this terminal provides an efficient, product-ready solution for developers and makers seeking a comprehensive embedded system. It is fully open-source hardware, facilitating a “pythonic” approach to development and enabling rapid prototyping of custom program interpreters.
At its core, the Wio Terminal is an ATSAMD51-based microcontroller, driven by an ARM Cortex-M4F CPU clocking at 120MHz, with a boost capability up to 200MHz. Wireless connectivity is robustly handled by the Realtek RTL8720DN chip, providing both dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4Ghz / 5Ghz) and Bluetooth 5.0, essential for modern IoT applications. The board is richly equipped with onboard peripherals including an IMU (LIS3DHTR), microphone, buzzer, microSD card slot, light sensor, and infrared emitter (IR 940nm). For expansion, it features two multifunctional Grove ports, seamlessly integrating with Seeed Studio’s vast Grove ecosystem, and a Raspberry Pi 40-pin compatible GPIO header, allowing for the use of various add-ons and HATs with an adapter cable.
