A PT100 is a Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) that uses the predictable change in platinum wire resistance to measure temperature, offering high accuracy and stability over a wide range. A thermocouple generates a voltage based on the temperature difference between two dissimilar metal junctions. This PT100 sensor provides a more linear and stable output compared to many standard thermocouple types.

This sensor has a 2-wire configuration. Connect the two leads from the 3-meter cable directly to the designated PT100 input terminals on your controller or transmitter, observing polarity if required. Ensure the controller is configured for a 2-wire PT100 input and the correct resistance curve (e.g., DIN/IEC 60751). For longest cable runs or highest accuracy, a 3-wire or 4-wire configuration is recommended to compensate for lead resistance.

The stainless steel (typically AISI 304 or 316) probe sheath provides good resistance to water, oils, and many mild chemicals. However, for highly corrosive or acidic media, a specific alloy like Inconel or a Teflon-coated sheath may be required. Always verify the chemical compatibility of 304/316 stainless steel with your specific process medium before installation.

The attached cable is typically rated for high temperatures, often using PTFE (Teflon) or fiberglass insulation, which can withstand continuous temperatures up to 200-250°C. Ensure the cable routing avoids direct contact with surfaces exceeding its rated temperature, such as the probe itself when measuring near 800°C. Use high-temperature conduit or sleeving if necessary.
