Description

The KSD9700/BK05-BB1D is a bimetallic disc thermostat designed for automatic over-temperature cutoff. Its operation relies on the differential thermal expansion of two bonded metals: when the calibrated temperature (75°C) is reached, the disc snaps to open the circuit, interrupting power to prevent damage. Upon cooling below the reset temperature, the disc snaps back to close the circuit, allowing normal operation to resume.

Housed in a metallic shell, the switch offers excellent thermal response and physical durability for demanding environments. The SPST normally-open configuration makes it ideal for series installation in the power line of heating elements, motors, transformers, or battery packs, providing a fail-safe thermal protection mechanism without requiring external power or control logic.

Key Features

  • Bimetallic snap-action mechanism ensures precise, repeatable switching at 75°C
  • Rugged metallic housing provides superior heat transfer and impact resistance
  • High-current 5A rating suitable for direct control of small motors and heaters
  • Wide voltage compatibility up to 250V AC/DC for universal application
  • Compact design with pre-attached 7cm wire leads for simplified installation
  • Normally-open (NO) contact configuration for fail-safe circuit interruption
  • Automatically resets once temperature drops below the setpoint
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for volume production and OEM use

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the switching action and reset behavior of this KSD9700 thermostat?

This is a normally-open (NO) bimetallic switch. It remains open at temperatures below 75°C and closes the circuit when cooled. When the sensing temperature reaches 75°C, the internal bimetallic disc snaps to physically open the contacts, breaking the circuit. It will automatically reset and close the contacts once the temperature cools sufficiently below the setpoint.

What is the maximum electrical load I can control with this switch?

The switch is rated for 5 Amps at up to 250 Volts AC or DC, for resistive loads. This rating is suitable for directly switching small motors, heating elements, or solenoids. For inductive loads like motors, derating or using an external relay is recommended for long-term reliability. Always ensure your operating current does not exceed the 5A specification.

How should I install and wire this metallic shell temperature switch?

Install the switch in series with the load you wish to protect, ensuring good thermal contact between its metallic shell and the heat source you are monitoring. The two wire leads are not polarized. Secure the switch's body directly to the component (e.g., motor housing, transformer core) using thermal adhesive or a mounting clip for optimal temperature sensing response.

Can I adjust the 75°C trip temperature on this switch?

No, the KSD9700/BK05-BB1D model has a fixed, factory-calibrated setpoint of 75°C. The bimetallic mechanism is sealed within the metallic housing and is not user-adjustable. If a different trip temperature is required, you must select a different model from the KSD9700 series with the corresponding pre-set temperature rating.
