Generic Sound Detection Sensor Module for Arduino Robots - LM393 Electret Microphone
This sound detection sensor module integrates an LM393 comparator and an electret condenser microphone, providing a digital output signal compatible with 3.3V or 5V microcontroller systems like Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. It detects the presence of sound within a 0.5-meter range, outputting a low-level signal upon detection.
Features
- LM393 comparator-based design for stable digital output.
- Electret condenser microphone provides sensitive acoustic detection.
- Wide operating voltage range from 3.3V to 5V DC.
- Digital output signal (active low) for easy microcontroller interfacing.
- Compact PCB with mounting holes for convenient installation.

This module functions as a basic sound presence detector. The onboard electret microphone converts acoustic vibrations into an electrical signal, which is then conditioned and compared by the LM393 operational amplifier. When the sound intensity exceeds a preset threshold, the module’s digital output pin switches to a low logic level, indicated by an onboard LED. It is designed for binary detection tasks and cannot distinguish between different sound frequencies or amplitudes.
The module is engineered for straightforward integration into DIY electronics and prototyping projects. Its 3.3-5V operating range makes it compatible with most common development boards. The output is a clean digital signal, eliminating the need for additional analog-to-digital conversion for basic trigger applications.
