Generic LM393 Sound Detection Sensor Module - Digital Output
This LM393-based sound detection sensor module provides a digital output signal when ambient sound exceeds a user-adjustable threshold. Operating from 3.3V to 5V DC, it is directly compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and other 3.3V/5V microcontroller platforms for basic acoustic event detection.
Features
- Digital output switches low upon sound detection, with a status LED indicator.
- Onboard potentiometer for precise sound threshold adjustment.
- Wide operating voltage range of 3.3V to 5V DC for flexible system integration.
- Compact PCB design with mounting holes for secure installation.
- Utilizes the reliable LM393 comparator IC for stable signal conditioning.

The LM393 Sound Detection Sensor Module functions as a basic acoustic switch. An onboard electret microphone captures ambient sound, which is amplified and fed into an LM393 voltage comparator. The comparator’s reference voltage is set by an adjustable potentiometer, defining the sound intensity threshold. When the audio signal exceeds this threshold, the module’s digital output pin goes low (logic 0) and an onboard LED illuminates, providing a clear visual and electrical trigger.
This module is designed for presence detection of sound events rather than amplitude or frequency analysis. Its simple digital interface makes it ideal for integrating acoustic triggers into automation systems, security projects, or interactive devices without complex analog signal processing.
