Description

This module integrates the HR202 humidity-sensitive resistor with a precision LM393 voltage comparator to create a digital switch output based on ambient humidity levels. The HR202 element changes resistance with relative humidity, and the comparator triggers a high or low digital signal when the sensed humidity crosses a user-defined threshold set by the potentiometer.

Designed for 3.3V to 5V DC systems, the module includes power and output status LEDs. The digital output can directly drive microcontroller I/O pins or, with sufficient current, interface with relay modules to form a humidity-controlled switch. The analog output (AO) pin provides a variable voltage corresponding to humidity for more precise measurement via an ADC.

Key Features

  • HR202 humidity-sensitive element for reliable environmental detection.
  • LM393 comparator ensures clean digital output signal with strong driving capability (>15mA).
  • User-adjustable trigger level for customizable humidity setpoints (e.g., 60% RH).
  • Dual LED indicators for power status and digital output state.
  • Compact form factor (51mm x 15mm) with integrated 3mm mounting holes.
  • Wide operating voltage range (3.3V to 5V DC) for compatibility with common development boards.
  • Provides both digital (DO) and analog (AO) output interfaces for flexibility.

Applications

  • Humidity-controlled ventilation or dehumidifier activation in greenhouses or storage rooms.
  • Basic environmental monitoring in DIY weather stations with Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
  • Preventive moisture detection in cabinets, basements, or electronic enclosures.
  • Educational projects for learning about analog-to-digital conversion and sensor interfacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for this HR202 humidity sensor module?

The module is designed to operate from 3.3V to 5V DC. Ensure your power supply matches this range. The digital output (DO) will swing between 0V (low) and the supply voltage (high), making it compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic microcontrollers like Arduino, ESP32, or Raspberry Pi.

How do I adjust the humidity detection threshold on this module?

Use the onboard blue potentiometer to set the trigger point. Rotate it while monitoring the environment and the output LED. When the sensed humidity crosses your set threshold, the digital output (DO) will switch state and the green LED will illuminate. This allows you to customize the setpoint, for example, to trigger at 60% RH.

Can I get a precise humidity reading, not just a digital trigger?

Yes. In addition to the digital output (DO), the module provides an analog output (AO) pin. Connect this pin to an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) input on your microcontroller (e.g., Arduino's A0 pin). The voltage on AO will vary proportionally with humidity, allowing you to read a more precise value after calibration.

What is the purpose of the LM393 chip on the module?

The LM393 is a precision voltage comparator. It compares the voltage from the HR202 sensor (which changes with humidity) against a reference voltage set by the potentiometer. When the sensor voltage crosses the threshold, the LM393 toggles the clean digital output signal. It provides stable switching and can sink/source over 15mA, offering good drive capability.
