Digital LDR Light Sensor Module for Arduino - LM393 Comparator, Adjustable Sensitivity
This LM393-based digital LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) module provides a simple digital output signal for ambient light detection, compatible with 3.3V and 5V microcontroller systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32. It features an onboard potentiometer for adjustable sensitivity and includes power and status indicator LEDs.
Features
- LM393 comparator-based design for stable digital switching.
- Digital output (TTL) triggers high/low based on adjustable light threshold.
- Onboard potentiometer for precise sensitivity adjustment.
- Wide operating voltage range: 3.3V to 5V DC.
- Compact PCB with M3 mounting hole for easy installation.

The module utilizes a cadmium sulfide (CdS) photoresistor (LDR) whose resistance varies inversely with light intensity. This variable resistance is compared against a set threshold by the LM393 voltage comparator, producing a clean digital TTL signal. The output toggles logic states when ambient light crosses the user-defined threshold, set via the onboard trimmer potentiometer.
Designed for straightforward integration, the module includes a power-on LED and a separate status LED that illuminates when the digital output is active (high). Its compact form factor and standard 2.54mm pin spacing make it suitable for breadboards and prototype shields, while the M3 mounting hole allows for secure placement in enclosures or fixtures.
