Description

This sensor utilizes a platinum Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) element, where resistance changes predictably with temperature according to the IEC 60751 standard. The 4-wire connection scheme is critical for high-precision applications, as it allows the measurement system to compensate for and eliminate errors caused by lead wire resistance, ensuring the reported value reflects only the temperature at the probe tip.

Encased in a SUS304 stainless steel sheath, the probe is designed for durability in demanding environments involving moisture, vibration, and a variety of media including air, liquids, and semi-solids. The attached cable features FEP insulation and a stainless steel braided shield, providing excellent chemical resistance, mechanical protection, and protection against electromagnetic interference for stable signal transmission over the 1.5-meter length.

Key Features

  • High-precision PT100 sensing element compliant with IEC/DIN EN 60751 standard.
  • Class B (F0.3) accuracy rating ensures reliable performance for industrial-grade applications.
  • Robust SUS304 stainless steel probe construction for corrosion resistance and long-term durability.
  • Four-wire configuration provides true resistance measurement by eliminating lead wire errors.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Class A and Class B accuracy for this PT100 sensor?

This sensor is rated Class B (F0.3) per the IEC 60751 standard. Class B sensors have a wider tolerance than Class A, typically ±(0.3 + 0.005|t|)°C, where |t| is the absolute temperature in °C. It is suitable for most industrial applications where high precision is required but the extreme accuracy of Class A is not necessary, offering an optimized performance-to-cost ratio.

Why does this sensor use a 4-wire configuration instead of 2 or 3 wires?

The 4-wire configuration is used for high-precision resistance measurement. Two wires carry a constant known excitation current to the RTD, while the other two wires measure the voltage drop directly across the RTD element itself. This method eliminates measurement errors caused by the resistance of the lead wires and connections, which is critical for accurate temperature readings, especially over longer cable runs.

What type of readout or transmitter do I need to use with this PT100 probe?

You will need a temperature transmitter, RTD input module, or data acquisition device specifically designed for 4-wire PT100 sensors. The device must provide a stable, low-current excitation (typically 0.3-1.0 mA) and perform a 4-wire resistance measurement. Many industrial PLCs, process controllers, and laboratory meters have compatible inputs. Ensure your device is configured for a PT100 sensor with a 3850 ppm/K temperature coefficient.

Can this sensor be used for measuring liquid temperatures?

Yes, the SUS304 stainless steel probe is corrosion-resistant and fully sealed, making it suitable for immersion in many liquids, including water, oils, and non-aggressive chemicals. Ensure the liquid is within the specified temperature range of -50°C to 200°C and is chemically compatible with stainless steel. For pressurized systems, verify the probe's pressure rating if available.
