DFRobot MSGEQ7 Audio Analyzer Module for Arduino
The DFRobot MSGEQ7 Audio Analyzer Module integrates the MSGEQ7 graphic equalizer IC to provide real-time audio frequency analysis for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other 5V microcontrollers. It splits an audio input into seven distinct frequency bands and outputs the peak level for each, enabling dynamic sound visualization and audio-reactive control systems.
Features
- Integrates the MSGEQ7 graphic equalizer IC for precise 7-band audio analysis.
- Outputs real-time peak levels for bands at 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.25kHz, and 16kHz.
- Operates at a standard 5V DC supply, compatible with Arduino and common 5V logic systems.
- Compact PCB footprint (25mm x 35mm) for easy integration into audio projects and enclosures.
- Includes analog and digital interface cables for straightforward connection to microcontroller I/O pins.

The DFRobot MSGEQ7 module is a dedicated audio spectrum analyzer built around the MSGEQ7 IC. It functions by sampling an analog audio input signal and using a bank of switched-capacitor bandpass filters to isolate seven predefined frequency bands. The peak amplitude of each band is sequentially output as an analog DC voltage, which can be read by a microcontroller’s ADC for real-time audio visualization, music pattern recognition, or triggering sound-activated events.
Designed for seamless integration, the module requires only power, ground, an audio input, and two digital control lines (Strobe and Reset) to operate. Its 5V logic compatibility makes it a plug-and-play component for Arduino Uno, Mega, and similar development boards, as well as systems using the Arduino IDE framework. The compact design and included cabling facilitate rapid prototyping of audio-reactive lighting displays, interactive installations, and audio analysis tools.
