Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the BMI088 Grove module?

The module is designed to operate from a supply voltage of 3.3V to 5V DC. This wide range ensures compatibility with most common microcontroller platforms like Arduino (5V), Raspberry Pi (3.3V), ESP32 (3.3V), and STM32 boards without requiring a level shifter.

How do I communicate with the sensor and what is the I2C address?

Communication is via the standard I2C serial interface. The default I2C address for the BMI088 accelerometer is 0x19, and for the gyroscope, it is 0x69. The included Grove cable connects the module's I2C pins (SDA, SCL) directly to the corresponding pins on your host board.

Can I use this sensor for high-vibration environments like on a drone?

Yes, the Bosch BMI088 chip is specifically engineered for high vibration suppression, making it suitable for demanding applications such as drone flight controllers and robotic systems. Its low noise and stable performance under mechanical stress ensure reliable motion data.

What are the configurable measurement ranges for the accelerometer and gyroscope?

The accelerometer offers four full-scale ranges: ±3g, ±6g, ±12g, and ±24g. The gyroscope offers five ranges: ±125°/s, ±250°/s, ±500°/s, ±1000°/s, and ±2000°/s. These ranges are software-configurable via the I2C interface to optimize resolution and dynamic range for your specific application.
