The Adafruit VCNL4200 is a dual-function I2C sensor module integrating long-range IR proximity detection (up to 1.5m) and a high-dynamic-range ambient light sensor (0.003-1570 lux). It is STEMMA QT compatible for plug-and-play connectivity with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and other 3.3V/5V microcontroller platforms.

The VCNL4200 sensor module integrates a high-power infrared LED and a dedicated photodiode for proximity sensing, coupled with a separate ambient light sensor. Its advanced signal processing includes background light cancellation algorithms to minimize false triggers from ambient IR sources, ensuring reliable object detection at distances up to 1.5 meters. The light sensor offers four selectable full-scale ranges for optimal resolution across various lighting conditions.
Designed for easy integration, the module communicates via a standard I2C interface and includes STEMMA QT connectors for rapid, solder-free connections to development boards and data acquisition systems. Its low-power operation and configurable measurement modes make it suitable for battery-powered applications in robotics, automation, and interactive systems.
