Frequently Asked Questions

What is the I2C address of the M5Stack MPU6886 IMU Unit?

The default I2C address for the MPU6886 sensor on this module is 0x68. This address is fixed and used for all communication, including reading acceleration, gyroscope, and temperature data from the sensor's registers.

What microcontroller voltages are compatible with this IMU module?

The module operates from 1.71V to 3.45V, making it directly compatible with 3.3V logic microcontrollers like ESP32, Raspberry Pi Pico, and many STM32 boards. For use with 5V Arduino boards, a logic level converter is required on the I2C lines (SDA, SCL) to prevent damage.

How do I select different measurement ranges for the accelerometer and gyroscope?

The accelerometer (±2g to ±16g) and gyroscope (±250°/s to ±2000°/s) ranges are software-configurable by writing to specific sensor registers via I2C. Libraries for Arduino and MicroPython typically provide functions to easily set these ranges according to your application's required sensitivity and dynamic range.

Does the module include mounting options for prototyping?

Yes, the PCB features two LEGO-compatible holes, allowing it to be securely attached to LEGO Technic beams or custom 3D-printed mounts with matching studs. This facilitates integration into robotics and mechanical prototypes without additional brackets.
