Winsen MP801 Air-Quality Gas Sensor - Semiconductor VOC Detection
The Winsen MP801 is a semiconductor-based air-quality gas sensor designed for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like benzene, toluene, methanol, and alcohol. It operates on a simple detection circuit with low power consumption, making it suitable for integration into air purifiers, exhaust systems, and indoor air quality monitors compatible with 3.3V or 5V logic systems.
Features
- Semiconductor sensor for VOC detection (alcohol, benzene, toluene, methanol, smoke)
- Low heater consumption ≤300mW for energy-efficient operation
- Metal cap encapsulation ensures stable performance and long operational life
- Simple interface with adjustable load resistance for easy signal conditioning
- Compact form factor ideal for space-constrained applications

The Winsen MP801 gas sensor utilizes a multilayer thick-film manufacturing process. A metal oxide semiconductor layer is deposited on a miniature Al2O3 ceramic substrate, with a built-in heater and electrodes leading to external pins, all housed within a protective metal socket and cap. The sensor’s conductivity changes in proportion to the concentration of target gases; higher gas concentrations result in higher conductivity. This change can be measured with a basic external circuit to produce a corresponding output signal.
Engineered for stability and longevity, the MP801 is calibrated under controlled conditions (20°C ±2°C, 65% ±5% RH). Its robust metal encapsulation protects the sensing element from environmental contaminants, ensuring reliable performance in applications monitoring indoor air quality and controlling ventilation systems.
