The Elecrow Crowtail Water Sensor operates on a basic conductivity principle. Its PCB features an interleaved pattern of exposed sensor traces and grounded traces. A weak 1 MΩ pull-up resistor holds the sensor output high. When water bridges the gap between a sensor trace and a grounded trace, it creates a conductive path, pulling the output signal low. This provides a clear digital signal for a microcontroller to read.
Designed for the Crowtail ecosystem, it connects directly to digital I/O pins on compatible boards like the Crowduino, requiring minimal external circuitry. Its compact, surface-mount design makes it suitable for integration into enclosures, tanks, or outdoor weather stations for monitoring liquid presence.
