The Elecrow CROWTAIL Digital Light Sensor module integrates the TSL2561 light-to-digital converter, which uses separate photodiodes for infrared and full-spectrum (visible + IR) light sensing. This dual-diode architecture allows the sensor to perform advanced ambient light calculations, including a human-eye response mode that filters out infrared to approximate photopic luminosity. The module outputs a calibrated 16-bit digital value directly via I2C, eliminating the need for external analog-to-digital conversion and providing stable readings across a wide dynamic range.
Designed for embedded systems and IoT applications, the module operates on a standard 3.3V or 5V logic supply and communicates at up to 400kHz I2C speed. Its digital nature ensures immunity to noise and voltage fluctuations common in analog sensor circuits. The compact CROWTAIL form factor allows direct connection to compatible base shields, simplifying prototyping and integration into light-sensing systems for environmental monitoring, display backlight control, and smart lighting.
