Frequently Asked Questions

What flight controllers are compatible with the NEO-6M GPS module?

The NEO-6M GPS module is designed for broad compatibility with various flight controllers that support UART TTL input, such as ArduPilot. It provides essential data for autonomous flight modes like waypoint navigation and Return To Home. Note that it is not compatible with APM 2.8 due to specific hardware differences.

How do the EEPROM and rechargeable battery enhance GPS performance?

The integrated EEPROM stores configuration settings persistently, ensuring the module retains your preferences even after power cycles. The rechargeable backup battery significantly reduces the "cold start" time by maintaining internal satellite orbit data, enabling quicker GPS lock acquisition for efficient flight operations.

What are the benefits of the tracking sensitivity and SBAS support?

With a SuperSense® tracking sensitivity of -162 dBm, the NEO-6M can acquire and maintain satellite signals in challenging environments, improving reliability. SBAS support (WAAS, EGNOS) enhances positional accuracy by correcting GPS signal errors, crucial for precise navigation and mapping applications in UAVs.

What is the typical baud rate for the NEO-6M, and how can it be configured?

The NEO-6M typically defaults to a 9600 baud rate for serial communication. Users can reconfigure this using u-center software, a dedicated tool from u-blox, allowing for adjustments to various settings and optimizing data transmission speed to match specific flight controller requirements.
