Description

The Waveshare MLX90640 IR Thermal Camera integrates Melexis’s MLX90640 sensor, a calibrated 32×24 pixel far-infrared array designed for accurate non-contact temperature measurement. The module outputs a grid of 768 individual temperature points, enabling the generation of basic thermal images and heat distribution analysis. Its wide 110° horizontal field of view makes it suitable for applications requiring broad area coverage rather than spot measurement.

Communication is handled via a standard I2C interface, configurable for standard or fast mode operation up to 1MHz, ensuring compatibility with a vast range of microcontrollers and single-board computers. The onboard logic-level translator allows seamless operation with both 3.3V and 5V host systems, simplifying integration into existing designs. With a programmable refresh rate from 0.5Hz to 64Hz, developers can balance between data throughput and power consumption based on application needs.
