The Adafruit High Voltage UPDI Friend serves as an essential USB serial UPDI programmer, specifically engineered to streamline the programming process for modern ATtiny microcontrollers. This compact board provides an efficient and reliable solution for developing with ATtiny816, ATtiny817, ATtiny1616, and other compatible ATtiny chips, offering high voltage programming capabilities where needed.

Designed for flexibility, the UPDI Friend supports both 3V and 5V power and logic levels, accommodating diverse project requirements. Its integrated 3V regulator can supply up to 500mA, ensuring stable power delivery to target devices. Communication is managed by a robust CH340E USB serial converter chip, guaranteeing seamless cross-platform connectivity and reliable data transfer. The inclusion of a 1K loop-back resistor further enhances communication stability, crucial for dependable ATtiny programming operations.

For user convenience, the board is equipped with a modern USB Type C connector for power and data. It also provides a JST SH cable for immediate breadboard integration and features 0.1″ spaced breakout holes, enabling custom connections and adaptability for unique project configurations. Visual feedback is provided by a green power OK LED and a red serial activity LED, allowing for quick status monitoring during development.
