Winsen ZE21-CS Battery Leak Detection Module - Electrochemical Sensor with UART Output
The Winsen ZE21-CS is an electrochemical gas detection module designed for monitoring battery leakage and combustion gases (CO, H2) in electric vehicle battery packs and energy storage systems. It provides digital UART (3.3V TTL) output for easy integration with microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi) and industrial PLCs.
Features
- Electrochemical sensor for battery leakage gases (CO, H2) with high selectivity
- Digital UART (3.3V TTL) and analog voltage output for flexible interfacing
- Wide detection range of 0–1000 ppm with 1 ppm resolution
- Built-in temperature sensor for automatic signal compensation
- Fast response time (T90 ≤5 seconds) and long operational life (5 years in air)

The ZE21-CS module employs a mature electrochemical sensing principle to detect volatile gases associated with battery electrolyte leakage and thermal runaway events. Its miniaturized design and sophisticated signal conditioning circuitry ensure high selectivity against common interfering gases like alcohol, providing stable and reliable monitoring for critical safety applications.
Operating from a 5–10V DC supply, the module features a quick 40-second preheat time and is rated for environments from -20°C to 65°C with 15–90% relative humidity (non-condensing). The integrated temperature sensor enables real-time compensation, maintaining measurement accuracy across varying operational conditions.
