Winsen MP905 Air-Quality Gas Sensor - Semiconductor VOC Detector
The Winsen MP905 is a semiconductor-based air-quality gas sensor designed for detecting a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, and alcohol. Operating at a precise 5.0V DC heater voltage, it provides a simple analog output signal suitable for integration into air purifiers, exhaust systems, and environmental monitoring projects with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or industrial controllers.
Features
- Semiconductor sensor with high sensitivity to VOCs (benzene, toluene, formaldehyde, alcohol, smoke)
- Operates at a stable 5.0V±0.1V DC loop/heater voltage with low power consumption
- Provides analog conductivity output proportional to gas concentration (0.5–1000 ppm alcohol range)
- Features a durable metal cap encapsulation for stable long-term performance
- Requires an initial 48-hour conditioning period for optimal sensor stabilization

The Winsen MP905 gas sensor utilizes a multilayer thick-film manufacturing process. A metal oxide semiconductor layer is deposited on a miniature Al2O3 ceramic substrate, with a integrated heater and electrodes leading to a metal socket and cap encapsulation. The sensor’s principle is based on changes in the semiconductor layer’s conductivity when exposed to reducing gases; higher gas concentrations result in higher conductivity.
This change in conductivity can be easily measured with a simple external load resistor circuit to produce a corresponding analog voltage output signal. The sensor is designed for long-term stability in indoor environments, making it a core component for air quality assessment and automated ventilation control systems.
