Waveshare Moisture Sensor - Analog Output Module
The Waveshare Moisture Sensor is an analog-output module designed for measuring soil moisture content, compatible with 3.3V and 5V microcontroller systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32. It provides a variable voltage signal proportional to the detected moisture level for easy integration into automated monitoring systems.
Features
- Analog voltage output increases with higher soil moisture content for straightforward measurement.
- Wide operating voltage range from 2.0V to 5.0V ensures compatibility with 3.3V and 5V logic systems.
- Compact PCB design with 38mm detection depth and pre-drilled 2.0mm mounting holes for secure installation.
- Simple 3-pin interface (VCC, GND, AOUT) for direct connection to microcontroller ADC inputs.
- Transistor-based amplification principle provides a stable, amplified signal from the soil probe.

The Waveshare Moisture Sensor operates on a transistor-based current amplification principle. When soil moisture creates a conductive path between the sensor’s electrodes, a base current is established, which is amplified by the transistor. This amplified current flows through an emitter resistor, generating a proportional analog voltage output (AOUT) that can be read by a microcontroller’s ADC.
Designed for durability in soil environments, the sensor features a corrosion-resistant electrode pattern on its PCB. The module’s straightforward analog interface eliminates the need for complex communication protocols, making it ideal for rapid prototyping and educational projects focused on plant health and automated irrigation.
