The Waveshare HRB8825 Stepper Motor HAT is engineered to provide precise motion control for Raspberry Pi and Jetson Nano platforms. At its core lies the HR8825 dual H-bridge motor driver chip, which natively supports up to 32 subdivisions (1/32 micro-stepping). This capability ensures exceptionally smooth and quiet motor operation, crucial for applications requiring fine positioning or reduced vibration.
Beyond its micro-stepping prowess, the HR8825 driver integrates essential protection circuits. These include short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown (overheating), undervoltage lockout, and cross-conduction protection. These safeguards continuously monitor fault conditions and rapidly disable the H-bridge when issues arise, protecting both the stepper motor and the driver chip itself. The board features an adjustable current limit via an onboard potentiometer, allowing users to fine-tune the motor drive current up to 2.5A to match specific motor requirements. Furthermore, its integrated 5V regulator can supply power to the connected Raspberry Pi, streamlining power management for compact embedded systems.
