Description

The SHT30-DIS-B from Sensirion is a next-generation digital humidity and temperature sensor based on the proven CMOSens® technology, which integrates the sensor element, signal processing, and digital calibration on a single chip. This MEMS-based capacitive sensing principle ensures high reliability and long-term stability, with minimal drift over time.

Engineered for demanding applications, the sensor provides fully linearized, temperature-compensated digital outputs via a fast I²C interface. Its robust design supports operation across an extensive temperature range from –40°C to 125°C and 0% to 100% relative humidity, making it suitable for harsh environments. The compact 8-pin DFN package is optimized for space-constrained PCB designs.

Key Features

  • CMOSens® Technology: Integrated capacitive humidity sensing and band-gap temperature sensing on a single CMOS die for superior signal quality.
  • Excellent Signal-to-Noise Ratio: Delivers low-noise measurements down to 0.08% RH and 0.04°C for stable readings.
  • Fast Response Time: Achieves 6-second response time for humidity and >2 seconds for temperature changes.
  • Wide Operating Range: Functions reliably from –40°C to 125°C and 0% to 100% RH.
  • Advanced Power Management: Features an ultra-low-power idle mode (0.2 µA) and a typical active current of 1.7 mA for energy-efficient operation.
  • Robust Digital Interface: I²C interface with clock stretching and two user-selectable addresses for easy system integration.
  • High-Value Build: Fully factory-calibrated with laser-trimmed memory, ensuring consistent performance and eliminating the need for field calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the SHT30-DIS-B sensor?

The SHT30-DIS-B operates from 2.15V to 5.5V DC, making it directly compatible with both 3.3V and 5V microcontroller systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32 without requiring a level shifter.

How do I communicate with this sensor using I²C?

The sensor uses a standard I²C interface supporting clock frequencies up to 1 MHz. It has two selectable slave addresses (0x44 and 0x45) set by the ADDR pin. Communication involves sending measurement commands and reading back 16-bit temperature and humidity data words.

Is the sensor calibrated, and does it require field calibration?

Yes, the SHT30-DIS-B is fully factory-calibrated with calibration coefficients stored in its on-chip memory. It provides temperature-compensated digital outputs, eliminating the need for user field calibration under normal operating conditions.

What is the power consumption in active and sleep modes?

In active measurement mode at 2 readings per second, typical current draw is 1.7 mA. The sensor features an ultra-low-power idle mode with a typical current consumption of only 0.2 µA, which is ideal for battery-powered applications.
