Seeed Studio Studio Grove Light Sensor v1.2 - GL5528 Phototriode, Analog Output
The Seeed Studio Studio Grove Light Sensor v1.2 is an analog ambient light detection module featuring a high-sensitivity GL5528 phototriode (LDR) and onboard LM358 op-amp signal conditioning. It outputs a voltage proportional to light intensity, making it directly compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontroller analog inputs via the standardized Grove connector.
Features
- Analog output voltage corresponds directly to ambient light intensity for easy microcontroller integration.
- Features the high-sensitivity GL5528 phototriode with a peak spectral response at 540 nm.
- Onboard LM358 operational amplifier provides stable, conditioned signal output.
- Standard Grove 4-pin connector eliminates complex wiring for rapid prototyping.
- Compact 20mm x 20mm PCB footprint with a 2mm mounting hole for secure installation.

This Grove Light Sensor v1.2 utilizes a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) as its core sensing element. The resistance of the GL5528 phototriode decreases non-linearly with increasing incident light intensity. An integrated LM358 dual op-amp circuit converts this variable resistance into a corresponding analog voltage signal, which is output via the Grove interface. The module is designed for reliable performance across a wide spectrum of light conditions, though it provides a relative light intensity trend rather than an absolute lux measurement.
Ideal for embedded systems and IoT projects, the sensor operates from a 3V to 5V DC supply, making it compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. Its quick response time and small form factor enable integration into space-constrained applications like smart home devices, environmental monitoring stations, and educational electronics kits.
