Pro-Range CRJ-A18M-5ANA Capacitive Proximity Sensor, NPN Output, M12 Connector, 5mm Detection

This sensor has an NPN (sinking) output. The brown wire connects to DC+ (10-30V), the blue wire to DC- (0V/GND), and the black wire is the switched NPN output that sinks current to ground when an object is detected. Always connect the load (e.g., PLC input, relay coil) between the black output wire and the positive supply voltage.

Unlike inductive sensors, this capacitive model can detect both metallic and non-metallic objects, including plastics, glass, liquids, wood, and powders. Its sensitivity is based on changes in the dielectric constant, making it ideal for level sensing and presence detection of insulating materials.

The sensor features a built-in potentiometer for fine-tuning sensitivity to different materials or environmental conditions. The nominal, fixed sensing distance is 5mm. Adjust the potentiometer while presenting the target object at the sensor face to optimize reliable detection without false triggering.

The sensor operates from 10 to 30V DC. It includes built-in reverse polarity protection, preventing damage if power wires are accidentally swapped, and output short-circuit protection, which safeguards the sensor if the output is momentarily shorted to ground or supply.

It has an M18 x 1mm threaded barrel for panel or bracket mounting using a standard lock nut. The electrical connection is via a 4-pin M12 male quick-disconnect connector, which is common in industrial environments for secure and reliable cabling.
