Pro-Range CRJ-A12M-3APA Capacitive Proximity Sensor - PNP M12, 3mm Detection

The CRJ-A12M-3APA features a PNP (sourcing) output. This means the sensor switches the positive voltage line to the load when activated, which is the standard convention for many PLCs in Europe and Asia. It is not interchangeable with NPN (sinking) outputs without modifying the control system's input circuitry.

While primarily optimized for non-metallic materials like plastics, liquids, and glass, it can detect conductive objects. However, for reliable metal detection, an inductive proximity sensor is typically recommended due to its immunity to environmental factors like humidity and material composition changes.

A built-in potentiometer is located on the back of the sensor housing. Use a small screwdriver to rotate it. Clockwise rotation increases sensitivity for detecting lower-dielectric materials or objects farther away, while counter-clockwise rotation decreases sensitivity to prevent false triggers from background objects or material buildup.

For reliable signal integrity with the PNP output, use a shielded cable and keep wiring under 100 meters. Beyond this distance, voltage drop and electromagnetic interference may affect performance. Ensure proper grounding of the shield at the controller end only.

With its IP67 rating and stainless steel housing, the sensor is protected against temporary immersion and high-pressure water jets, making it suitable for washdown areas in food processing or pharmaceutical applications. Ensure the electrical connection (M12 connector) is properly sealed.
