Pro-Range CRJ-A12-5APA Capacitive Proximity Sensor - PNP Output, M12 Thread, 5mm Detection

This sensor has a PNP (sourcing) output. The brown wire is typically connected to the positive supply voltage (10-30V DC), the blue wire to common ground (0V), and the black wire is the switched PNP output that provides the positive voltage signal when an object is detected. Always refer to the specific datasheet for your model's exact wiring diagram.

While capacitive sensors are primarily designed for non-metallic materials like plastics, liquids, and wood, they can detect metallic objects. However, the sensing distance may be significantly greater than the stated 5mm for metals, and tuning via the sensitivity adjustment may be required. For reliable metal detection, an inductive proximity sensor is generally recommended.

A small potentiometer on the back of the sensor body allows you to adjust the detection sensitivity. Turn it clockwise to increase sensitivity (detect objects further away) and counter-clockwise to decrease it. The M12 x 1 metric thread is an industrial standard for mounting; you simply screw the sensor into a pre-tapped M12 hole in a machine panel or bracket, using the integrated CubePilot nut for locking.
