Description
The OpenMV Servo Shield is a dedicated expansion board designed to unlock advanced robotics and automation capabilities for the OpenMV camera ecosystem. It centers on the PCA9685, a 16-channel, 12-bit PWM controller, configured here to drive up to 8 servos or PWM devices concurrently. Communication is handled via a standard I2C bus, allowing the shield to be stacked with other I2C peripherals and controlled directly from the OpenMV Cam’s Python scripts.
Power management is a key feature, with separate voltage inputs for logic (2.3V-5.5V) and servo motors (4.8V-6.0V). This separation protects sensitive camera circuitry from inductive load noise and voltage drops. The board’s low standby current and robust operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C make it suitable for extended outdoor or industrial applications where the OpenMV platform is deployed for machine vision tasks.
