HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Range Finder Sensor Module for Arduino
The HC-SR04 is a compact ultrasonic distance sensor module operating at 5V DC, compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other microcontrollers. It provides non-contact distance measurement from 2 cm to 400 cm with a 40 kHz acoustic signal.
Features
- Wide sensing range from 2 cm to 400 cm (450 cm maximum)
- Operates on a 5V DC supply with simple trigger/echo pulse interface
- Compact PCB design measuring 45 x 20 mm with integrated transmitter and receiver
- 40 kHz operating frequency with a 15° sensing angle for stable readings
- Ideal for robotics, obstacle avoidance, and object detection projects

The HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor module uses sonar principles to measure distance to objects. A trigger pulse initiates a 40 kHz ultrasonic burst; the time for the echo to return is measured and output as a pulse width on the Echo pin, proportional to the distance. This time-of-flight method provides stable and accurate readings unaffected by ambient light or color, though acoustically soft materials may be harder to detect.
Designed for easy integration, the module features a standard 4-pin interface (VCC, Trig, Echo, GND) compatible with 5V logic microcontrollers like Arduino and ESP32. Its compact construction and low power consumption make it suitable for mobile robotics, level sensing, and proximity detection applications.
