The GY-31 module integrates the TCS3200 monolithic CMOS IC, which combines configurable silicon photodiodes and a current-to-frequency converter. The sensor’s output is a square wave with a 50% duty cycle, where the frequency is directly proportional to the intensity of the incident light filtered through its red, green, blue, and clear channels. This digital output scheme eliminates the need for an external analog-to-digital converter, providing noise-immune communication with host processors.
Engineered for stable operation, the module features a low non-linearity error of 0.2% (typical at 50kHz) and includes a power-down feature for reduced energy consumption in battery-powered applications. Its robust design ensures reliable performance in environments with significant temperature fluctuations, making it suitable for embedded color sensing tasks in industrial, educational, and prototyping contexts.
