This module employs an array of eight infrared LED and phototransistor pairs, each functioning as a discrete reflective optical sensor. The IR light emitted is reflected off a surface and detected by the corresponding phototransistor, with the resulting analog signal conditioned internally to produce a clean digital high/low output. This design allows for reliable distinction between high-reflectivity (e.g., white) and low-reflectivity (e.g., black) surfaces.
Engineered for low-power operation with a typical current draw of 100mA, the module is suitable for battery-powered mobile robotics. Its straightforward digital interface eliminates the need for external analog-to-digital conversion, simplifying integration into microcontroller-based control systems for navigation, positioning, and automated guidance tasks.
