MLX90614 ESF IR Non-Contact Temperature Sensor Module - I2C Interface
The MLX90614 ESF is a factory-calibrated infrared thermopile sensor module for non-contact temperature measurement, featuring a standard I2C interface compatible with 3.3V and 5V systems like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32.
Features
- Non-contact IR temperature sensing with dual measurement ranges: -70°C to +380°C (object) and -40°C to +125°C (ambient).
- Integrated signal conditioning with 17-bit ADC and DSP for high accuracy (±0.5°C in 0-50°C range) and 0.01°C resolution.
- Standard I2C digital interface (SMBus compatible) with onboard pull-up resistors for easy daisy-chaining of up to 127 sensors.
- Low power operation at 2mA from a 3V to 5V supply, with built-in voltage regulator for stable performance.
- Compact TO-39 package and small PCB (11x17mm) for integration into space-constrained designs and mobile applications.

The MLX90614 ESF integrates a precision IR-sensitive thermopile detector and a signal conditioning ASIC within a single TO-39 metal can. The onboard ASIC includes a low-noise amplifier, 17-bit analog-to-digital converter, and a powerful DSP unit, which processes the raw IR data to provide calibrated temperature readings via a digital I2C interface. This design eliminates the need for complex external calibration circuitry.
Factory calibrated across a wide ambient temperature range, the module delivers reliable performance in demanding environments. Its non-contact measurement principle makes it ideal for monitoring moving parts, high-temperature surfaces, or objects where physical contact is impractical or unsafe. The module also supports a configurable PWM output for continuous temperature streaming.
