Description

The BMM150 sensor from Bosch employs FlipCore technology to deliver stable and accurate magnetic field measurements without requiring initial calibration. It outputs raw geomagnetic data across three perpendicular axes, enabling precise calculation of compass heading angles.

This Gravity-series module conditions the sensor signal and provides a standard 4-pin I2C interface, making it directly compatible with most microcontrollers and single-board computers. The onboard 2-bit DIP switch allows selection from four I2C addresses to avoid bus conflicts in multi-sensor setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the BMM150 Gravity module?

The module accepts a wide DC input range from 3.3V to 5V, making it directly compatible with both 3.3V logic systems like Raspberry Pi and ESP32, as well as 5V Arduino boards without requiring a logic level shifter.

How do I change the I2C address to avoid conflicts with other sensors?

Use the onboard 2-bit DIP switch to select one of four available I2C addresses before powering the module. Consult the DFRobot documentation for the specific address codes corresponding to each switch position.

Does this sensor require calibration before use?

The Bosch BMM150 sensor core features FlipCore technology designed to provide stable output without mandatory initial calibration. However, for highest accuracy in specific environments, performing a soft-iron and hard-iron calibration routine is recommended.

What is the typical current consumption during operation?

At a 10Hz output data rate (ODR), the sensor consumes approximately 1.7mA. Power consumption scales with the configured ODR, with lower rates consuming less current, making it suitable for battery-powered applications.
