Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for the SPA06-003 sensor module?

The sensor IC itself operates from 1.7V to 3.6V. The Adafruit module includes an onboard 3.3V regulator and level shifter, allowing safe power input from a 3.3V or 5V microcontroller system. Always connect VIN to your system's 3.3V or 5V rail, not the sensor's 1.7-3.6V range directly.

Can I use this sensor with both I2C and SPI interfaces?

Yes, the SPA06-003 supports both I2C and SPI digital communication protocols. The interface is selected via a configuration pin on the sensor. The Adafruit breakout board provides access to both sets of pins. For I2C, use the STEMMA QT connectors or the SDA/SCL pins. For SPI, connect to the dedicated MOSI, MISO, and SCK pins.

How accurate is the pressure reading for altitude calculation?

The sensor provides an absolute pressure accuracy of ±0.3 hPa. For relative altitude changes, its typical relative accuracy is even better, at ±0.03 hPa (±0.25 meters). This makes it suitable for detecting small altitude changes in drones, weather balloons, or indoor navigation systems, though absolute altitude requires a known reference pressure for calibration.

Does the module include pull-up resistors for I2C communication?

The Adafruit SPA06-003 breakout board includes onboard 10kΩ pull-up resistors on the I2C lines (SDA and SCL). This simplifies connection to microcontrollers, as you typically do not need to add external pull-ups. If you are daisy-chaining multiple I2C devices, you may need to disable these onboard resistors by cutting the relevant traces.
