Description

The CZJ-A18-16ANA operates on the electromagnetic induction principle, generating an oscillating field from its sensing face. When a conductive metal object enters this field, eddy currents are induced, causing a change in the oscillation amplitude which is detected and converted into a clean digital NPN switching signal. This non-contact method ensures zero mechanical wear and high reliability.

Constructed with a durable SUS-304 stainless steel housing, the sensor is built to withstand industrial environments. Its integrated protection circuits safeguard against wiring errors and transient electrical events, ensuring stable performance in applications involving motors, solenoids, and other inductive loads.

Key Features

  • Inductive sensing principle for reliable detection of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
  • NPN open-collector output (normally open configuration) compatible with 10-30V DC systems.
  • M18 x 1 standard industrial thread for secure and versatile mounting.
  • High switching frequency for fast-moving part detection on production lines.
  • LED status indicator for real-time output state monitoring.
  • Short-circuit and reverse polarity protection integrated for enhanced system safety.
  • IP67-rated housing (typical for this series) provides protection against dust and temporary immersion.
  • Optimized performance-to-cost ratio for high-volume automation applications.

Applications

  • Position sensing and end-of-travel limit detection on CNC machines and linear actuators.
  • Part presence verification and counting on automated assembly and packaging lines.
  • Rotary encoder synchronization and spindle rotation detection in machining centers.
  • Metal object detection in robotic grippers and material handling systems.
  • Safety interlock and door position monitoring in industrial machinery guards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the operating voltage range for this NPN inductive sensor?

The Pro-Range CZJ-A18-16ANA is designed to operate within a 10 to 30 Volts DC range. It is compatible with standard 12V and 24V industrial control systems. Ensure correct polarity when connecting the brown wire to V+ and the blue wire to ground (0V).

How do I wire the NPN output to a PLC or microcontroller?

The NPN output is a sinking type. Connect the black output wire to your PLC's digital input. The PLC input must be pulled high to its supply voltage (e.g., 24V) through an internal or external resistor. When the sensor detects metal, the NPN transistor sinks current, pulling the input low to signal detection.

Can this sensor detect non-ferrous metals like aluminum or copper?

Yes, inductive sensors can detect all conductive metals, but the sensing distance is reduced for non-ferrous materials. The 16mm nominal distance is specified for mild steel. For aluminum, expect an effective sensing distance of approximately 40-60% of the rated value, or around 6-10mm.

What is the recommended mounting procedure for the M18 thread?

Use a standard M18 x 1.0 metric tap to create the mounting hole. The sensor should be mounted flush with or slightly recessed behind the mounting surface. Ensure no other metal objects are within the lateral sensing area (typically 1-2 times the sensor diameter) to avoid false triggering.

Does the sensor have any built-in protection features?

Yes, the module includes reverse polarity protection, preventing damage if power wires are accidentally swapped. It also features short-circuit protection on the output, safeguarding the internal switching transistor if the output is directly shorted to the positive supply rail.
