This capacitive proximity sensor is designed to detect non-metallic materials such as plastics, glass, liquids, wood, paper, and granular powders. It is ideal for applications where standard inductive sensors, which only detect metals, are not suitable. The NPN output is a sinking output. Connect the brown wire to the positive DC supply voltage (typically 12-24V), the blue wire to the DC common (0V), and the black wire is the switched output. The black wire will connect to your PLC's digital input. The PLC input must be configured to source current, as the sensor's NPN transistor sinks current to ground when activated.

Yes, the sensor features a sensitivity adjustment potentiometer. While the nominal detection distance is 5mm, the sensitivity screw allows you to fine-tune the sensing field. Turning it clockwise increases sensitivity (potentially increasing range but also susceptibility to background interference), while counter-clockwise decreases it. The effective range can be slightly extended or reduced based on the target material's dielectric constant.

The M12 threaded housing provides a degree of mechanical robustness. However, the standard model is not specifically rated as waterproof or dust-tight. For environments with significant moisture, dust, or washdown requirements, you should verify the specific IP rating or consider sensors explicitly designed and sealed for such conditions.
