Description

The Grove MQ9 Gas Sensor utilizes a tin dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element. In the presence of a target combustible gas, the sensor’s conductivity increases proportionally to the gas concentration. This change is converted into an analog output voltage signal via a simple drive circuit, which can be read by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) on a microcontroller.

The module includes a potentiometer for calibrating the sensor’s sensitivity threshold, allowing adjustment for different environmental conditions or alarm levels. Designed for rapid prototyping, it integrates the sensor, signal conditioning, and the standardized Grove 4-pin interface into a single compact board, simplifying integration into air quality monitors, gas leak alarms, and industrial safety systems.

Key Features

  • High sensitivity to Carbon Monoxide (CO) and combustible gases (LPG, methane, hydrogen).

Frequently Asked Questions

What gases does the MQ9 sensor detect?

The MQ9 sensor is primarily sensitive to Carbon Monoxide (CO) and combustible gases such as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), methane, and hydrogen. It is designed for applications requiring detection of these specific gas types for safety and monitoring purposes.

How do I interface this sensor with an Arduino?

Connect the module to your Arduino using the included Grove cable. Plug the cable into any analog Grove port (e.g., A0) on a Grove base shield or directly to the Arduino's analog input pin (using the signal wire). The sensor operates on 5V, and the analog output can be read using the analogRead() function.

Can I adjust the sensor's sensitivity?

Yes. The module includes a blue potentiometer. Rotating it adjusts the sensitivity threshold of the sensor's output signal. This allows you to calibrate the detection level for your specific environment or application requirements.

What is the operating voltage range?

The Grove MQ9 module accepts a DC supply voltage from 3.3V to 5V. This makes it compatible with most common microcontroller platforms, including 3.3V systems like the Raspberry Pi (with appropriate level shifting for the analog signal) and standard 5V Arduino boards.
