Seeed Studio Studio Grove MQ9 Gas Sensor Module for CO & Combustible Gas Detection - Analog Output
The Seeed Studio Studio Grove MQ9 is a semiconductor gas sensor module designed for detecting Carbon Monoxide (CO) and combustible gases like LPG, methane, and hydrogen. It provides an analog voltage output proportional to gas concentration and is directly compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other 5V/3.3V microcontroller platforms via the Grove connector system.
Features
- Semiconductor MQ9 sensor for CO and combustible gas detection.
- Analog voltage output for direct ADC reading with microcontrollers.
- On-board potentiometer for sensitivity adjustment.
- Grove 4-pin connector for plug-and-play compatibility with Seeed Studio ecosystem.
- Wide operating voltage range of 3.3V to 5V DC.

The Grove MQ9 Gas Sensor utilizes a tin dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element. In the presence of a target combustible gas, the sensor’s conductivity increases proportionally to the gas concentration. This change is converted into an analog output voltage signal via a simple drive circuit, which can be read by an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) on a microcontroller.
The module includes a potentiometer for calibrating the sensor’s sensitivity threshold, allowing adjustment for different environmental conditions or alarm levels. Designed for rapid prototyping, it integrates the sensor, signal conditioning, and the standardized Grove 4-pin interface into a single compact board, simplifying integration into air quality monitors, gas leak alarms, and industrial safety systems.
