ACEBOTT MQ-4 Natural Gas & Methane Sensor - Analog Output, Easy-Plug Compatible
The ACEBOTT MQ-4 is a semiconductor-based combustible gas sensor module designed for detecting methane, propane, and butane. It provides an analog voltage output proportional to gas concentration, making it compatible with development boards like Arduino and ESP32 via its Easy-Plug connector for rapid prototyping.
Features
- Detects combustible gases including methane (natural gas), propane, and butane.
- Analog voltage output for direct interfacing with microcontroller ADCs.
- Wide detection range from 300 to 10,000 ppm.
- Operates on a standard 5V DC supply with ~150mA heater current.
- Easy-Plug connector system for quick integration with ACEBOTT and compatible development ecosystems.

The MQ-4 sensor utilizes a tin dioxide (SnO2) semiconductor sensing element. In clean air, the sensor’s conductivity is low. When a combustible gas is present, the gas interacts with the sensing surface, causing a decrease in resistance that is proportional to the gas concentration. This change is measured as an analog voltage signal.
Designed for easy integration, the module includes a built-in comparator for basic threshold detection and an Easy-Plug connector for simplified wiring with platforms like ESP32 and Arduino. It is suitable for preliminary leak detection and safety monitoring applications in well-ventilated areas, with an operating temperature range of -20°C to +80°C.
