The Waveshare TOF Mini Laser Range Sensor employs a 940nm infrared laser and a time-of-flight (TOF) measurement principle, calculating distance based on the round-trip time of a reflected light pulse. An embedded MCU runs a proprietary ranging algorithm, delivering stable readings from 0.02m to 7.8m with an accuracy of ±4cm. Its ultra-narrow field of view (2°–3°) minimizes interference from ambient light and stray reflections, enabling reliable performance even in bright conditions up to 100k lux.
Designed for flexible system integration, the sensor operates from a 4.3V to 5.2V DC supply and communicates via configurable UART or I2C interfaces. This makes it directly compatible with a wide range of development platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and STM32. The module’s compact SMT design and low power profile make it suitable for embedded applications in mobile robotics, drones, and automated systems where space and efficiency are critical.
