The TCRT1000 from Vishay is an ambient light sensor (ALS) module that combines an infrared-filtered phototransistor in a single, compact SIP-4 package. It detects the intensity of visible light, closely matching the spectral sensitivity of the human eye, making it ideal for applications requiring adaptive display brightness or environmental light monitoring.
This sensor outputs a variable current proportional to the incident light level, which can be easily converted to a voltage signal using a simple pull-up resistor for direct reading by an ADC. Its wide supply voltage compatibility allows for seamless integration into both 5V and 3.3V logic systems, as well as higher voltage industrial controls.
