Description

The TES1-7104 is a solid-state thermoelectric cooling module based on the Peltier effect. When DC power is applied, heat is actively pumped from one ceramic face to the other, creating a cold side and a hot side. This enables precise temperature regulation without moving parts, making it ideal for applications requiring localized cooling or thermal cycling.

Constructed with high-quality bismuth telluride semiconductor elements sandwiched between alumina ceramic plates, the module offers efficient heat transfer and electrical isolation. Its 3.2mm profile and 23x23mm area allow for integration into compact assemblies, from CPU coolers and laser diode temperature stabilization to portable refrigeration units and scientific instrumentation.

Key Features

  • High-Efficiency Cooling: Delivers up to 18W of cooling power for effective heat absorption.
  • Optimized Electrical Specs: Rated for 8.4V DC operation at 4A, compatible with standard DC power supplies and drivers.
  • Max ΔT of 65°C: Capable of creating a significant temperature differential between its faces for demanding thermal management tasks.
  • Compact & Low-Profile Design: Measures 23mm x 23mm x 3.2mm, enabling integration into tight spaces.
  • Solid-State Reliability: No moving parts or refrigerants, ensuring maintenance-free operation and long service life.
  • Alumina Ceramic Substrates: Provide excellent thermal conductivity, electrical insulation, and mechanical durability.
  • Bidirectional Operation: Can be used for heating by reversing polarity, offering flexible temperature control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum power input for the TES1-7104 Peltier module?

The module is rated for a maximum input power of approximately 33.6 Watts (8.4V * 4A). It is crucial to use a DC power supply or driver capable of delivering at least 8.4V and 4A continuously for optimal cooling performance. Exceeding these ratings may damage the semiconductor elements.

How do I mount and heat sink this thermoelectric cooler?

The TES1-7104 must be sandwiched between two heatsinks. The cold side (where heat is absorbed) requires a heatsink to dissipate the target heat load. The hot side (where heat is rejected) requires a more substantial heatsink, often with a fan, to dissipate both the absorbed heat and the electrical power consumed by the module. Use thermal paste and apply even pressure to ensure good thermal contact with both ceramic faces.

Can I control the cooling power or use this module for heating?

Yes. Cooling power is proportional to the input current. You can use a PWM-controlled DC driver or a variable voltage supply to modulate the current and fine-tune the cooling effect. Furthermore, by reversing the polarity of the DC power connections, the module will pump heat in the opposite direction, effectively turning it into a heater, which is useful for bidirectional temperature control systems.

What is the meaning of the 65°C temperature difference (ΔT) specification?

The ΔTmax of 65°C indicates the maximum temperature difference the module can achieve between its hot and cold sides when the hot side is held at a specific temperature (typically 27°C) and no heat load is applied to the cold side (Qc = 0). Under real-world conditions with an applied heat load, the achievable ΔT will be lower. This parameter defines the module's peak thermodynamic performance.
